Seeking the Lost

The Knights of the Round Table actively seeks out those who are lost in their alcoholism or addiction and are homeless or incarcerated as the result. Read more about how The Knights is engaging with these folks and impacting their lives.

Support Our Work

The Knights of the Round Table is seeking financial support so we can increase the scope of programs and projects like our seeking the lost outreach.

Active Direct Support

A large portion of the homeless population in the USA exists as the direct result of addiction to drugs and alcohol. Many of the Knights of the Round Table’s members were in this exact situation, and they were rescued by the intervention of those in recovery who have spent time and resources to reach out to offer hope and support to them. As the result of their experience in what is known as ’12-Stepping’ (active seeking and reaching out to those in need of recovery from alcoholism or addiction), the Knights members have taken to the streets, parks and other areas where the homeless are lost in alcoholism or addiction. We talk to these individuals to provide hope, an opportunity to find recovery, and often some material support as well. The material support can be in the form of simple necessities such as water, first-aid kits, socks, etc. The items that are chosen and given are things that will not ease the discomfort that comes with homelessness as the result of their alcoholism or addiction. This is because discomfort often drives addicts and alcoholics into a willingness to change their lives. They are also given informational resources where they can go to find safe detoxification and / or sober living facilities. They are offered sponsorship (mentoring someone in the 12-step program of recovery), and a hope for a future through the testimony of the Knights members seeking them out. This direct ’12-stepping’ intervention provides an effective hands-on way for members of the Knights of the Round Table to have a direct impact on those suffering and on the commuinty at large.

Another large portion of those active in addiction are incarcerated or released into in-patient recovery facilities or hospitals. Again, many of the members of the Knights of the Round Table have been in this situation and found recovery and a new life through the outreach of those who have come before them. Thus the Knights of the Round Table has created a Hospitals and Institutions Committee to provide 12-step meetings to those confined to these facilities. Members go through a screening process to get access to these facilities and then share their experience, strength and hope with those inside. Knights often end up as the Sponsor of the people they are bringing the meetings to. A large percentage of the members of the Knights are made up of people from these situations, and the recovery rate within the group is much higher than the average in the recovery community as a whole.

By actively seeking out those who are still suffering in alcoholism and addiction, the Knights of the Round Table continues to make a significant impact on the lives of those whom they serve. There is a financial need associated with this function in the form of the purchase of 12-step literature as well as the emergency items given to the homeless alcoholics and addicts. If you would like to partner with the Knights financially to help provide for this need, or would like more information on this annual project, please click here to provide a tax-deductible donation or contact us through this website.
