Mexico Home

The Knights of the Round Table partners with Amor Ministries every year to provide the construction of a house for a family in need in the Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) area of Mexico. This annual project has a lasting impact not just on the families that receive the home, but on the volunteers who provide the work.

Changing Lives Forever

The Knights of the Round table has been partnering with Amor Ministries for over two decades to help provide homes for families in need in Mexico. Children whose families cannot afford to provide for their basic needs have been sent away to live at orphanages, so since 1980 Amor has been building homes to keep more families together.  From their website, Amor states: “When you join us on a trip, you do more than just build a house. You help provide safety and security for a family. Parents can spend less money on rent, and more on their children’s education. It means hope for a family’s future. Join us on a life-changing experience to transform not just a family’s life, but also your own.”  The Knights has experienced these very promises as a group and as individuals. Many members return claiming that the experience was life-changing by giving them a sense of purpose and gratitude they have never experienced before.
The trip involves quite a bit of planning and fundraising, as the annual budget exceeds $10,000.

Through the extensive collaborative efforts of its members and leaders, the Knights arranges all of the logistical and material support needed for a group of over 40 people for this three-day trip outside of the country. The work is hard, as an entire 22ft X 11ft two-room house is constructed entirely by hand without any power tools. The efforts include the mixing and pouring of the concrete slab,  as well as the framing, roofing and stuccoing of the structure. Members return to camp each night both exhausted and exhilarated. They share their experiences as a group around a nightly campfire, building relationships with one another and giving praise and thanks to God. The project is large, but comes with huge rewards, including the changing of a family’s lifestyle for generations.
