The Knights of the Round Table – Sponsorship Lineage

Sponsorship in 12 step programs is the direct, one-on-one mentoring of an individual in his recovery with another who has recovered, and who can come alongside him in his journey of recovery and new life. Sponsorship lineage is thus the exponential growth of a fellowship through the addition of new men joining the group. This is the basis for the membership of The Knights of the Round Table, and the only requirements for men to join the group are having a desire to break their alcoholism or addiction and obtaining a sponsor within the fellowship.

Brian Ong, Founder

Recovery work wields an incredible power to change lives and in turn  change the communities we serve. We already beat our worst problem – drugs and alcohol. Together, we can face anything else.

Unbroken Chain Since 1995

The Knights of the Round Table was founded in 1995 by Brian Ong, who had a strong desire to help as many people as he could to get and stay sober. He began hosting a meeting on Thursday evenings where he required his “sponsees” (the men he was sponsoring) to attend. Soon those men began to sponsor others in recovery and began to bring their sponsees to the group. Before long the group became a fellowship, and to this day, more than 25 years later, over 8,000 men have attended the Knights. With an average weekly attendance of 375, the fellowship has outgrown its single meeting location capacity and birthed three chapters in Arizona as well as two chapters in North Dakota. Because of the structure and values within the fellowship such as sponsorship, accountability, and integrity, the long-term recovery rate of members of The Knights is noted to be significantly higher than that of regular 12-step fellowships. This is the basis for the Knights of the Round Table and it remains unchanged since its conception.

The growth of the organization continues, and the desire of its founder to not just provide a fellowship of recovery, accountability, spiritual growth and redemption for all Knights of the Round Table  members, but also to facilitate and lead its members into charitable acts for the benefit of those in our communities.

We are led by an all-volunteer Executive Steering Committee, and overseen by a Board of Directors (also all- volunteer comprised). Additionally, The Knights incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity organization in 2009 and has put its resources and influence to work in the community. These activities include various charitable activities, projects and programs (see the projects / programs area of the website for some examples). Through internal and external fundraising efforts the Knights have accomplished the construction of over 20 houses for those in need in impoverished areas of Mexico, served hundreds of families by providing Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas presents during the holiday season, provided scholarships to their intensive 12 step study retreats for newly sober men, and rescued a countless number of suffering addicts and alcoholics from a seemingly hopeless state of mind, body and soul.

Please consider partnering with The Knights of the Round Table through financial and material support, as the fellowship desires to have an ever-increasing influence not just in the community of recovery, but in the world at large. The Knights continues to grow in number and in scope, and with God as its true leader, the possibilities are limitless.
